This May we’re inviting our supporters to help us raise funds by hosting your very own “Put the T in sTroke” tea party… complete with cakes.

But what cakes would prove most popular?

The traditional Victoria sponge cake? The sumptuous coffee and walnut? A Bruce Bogtrotter-sized chocolate fudge? The deceptively delicious carrot, or the splendid-sounding Battenburg…?

We want to know what cakes tickle your taste buds most and we’d love to hear about your own recipes and cake-related anecdotes.

5 cake facts everyone should know

1.   The ancient Egyptians are believed to have created the first cakes, using honey to sweeten them
2   The word "cake" is derived from the Old Norse word, "kaka".
3   In the Middle Ages, cakes were essentially flat, round bread that was baked hard on both sides.
4  Queen Victoria is credited with being one of the first people to have pure white icing on her wedding cake.
5   In 1991, a British VAT tribunal ruled that Jaffa Cakes are technically cakes, not biscuits - based on the fact that when stale, cakes go hard, while biscuits go soft.
