One of the superstars walking last year’s Charity Walk was Rachel Trudgian who, with her daughter Millie stormed the 1 mile accessible route.

What was so inspiring was the circumstances for both ladies.

Just months before, they were enjoying the holiday of a lifetime together in Sri Lanka. As she says: “Little did we know that in a month we would both be seriously ill in hospital. Millie’s horrendous motorbike accident was devastating. She almost lost her leg. I was in pieces.

“This terrible trauma probably contributed to my stroke a few days later. That and a hole in my heart!”

Her stroke was particularly shocking for her as she was seriously fit at the time – playing netball and running half marathons. And that background of serious, regular training came into good use as Rachel set about exercising her left leg and arm that had been rendered immobile… up to eight hours each day.

She hasn’t stopped training since, and on September 6, Rachel will once again line up on the start line for the BAS Charity Walk… but this year her target is the whole six miles.
