We’ve just held our annual survey amongst our 70+ volunteers – a really important piece of work as it gives them a chance to tell us what we’re doing right… and how we can improve.

So what were the findings?

Everything is anonymised, allowing people to speak openly… but it was an incredibly positive response again this year.

Critically, we gained lots of insights into what motivates our volunteers to give their time and energy to provide the vital help that makes our work possible.

It also tells us how well our groups are going – one of the key ways in which volunteers contribute.

So, do have a read below. And, if what you read inspires you to join us as a volunteer, we would be delighted to hear from you!

“I love being involved with BAS. Volunteering is my way of giving a little something back after I had my stroke and was so well supported by my key worker and all at BAS.”

“It’s a fantastic group and a great atmosphere.”

“Great leadership and wonderful group members, all very supportive of each other.”

“Every session is interesting in so many ways.”

“Everyone is nice and I feel a sense of fulfilment.”

“The benefits to the attendees are clear to see.  It’s friendly, jolly, empathetic, informative and inclusive.”

“I have found involvement with BAS and my fellow volunteers to be very fulfilling and cathartic.  I am thankful to have survived the stroke and recovered sufficiently well to empathise with fellow survivors and pass on to them some of my personal knowledge and experience about the stroke I suffered and the one which they may have experienced.”

“By volunteering through BAS, I have had the opportunity to give back to the community and share with others how I have managed to survive my stroke and meet and deal with the associated challenges being faced by many survivors even more seriously affected.”

“I give what I can when I can and believe that I make a small difference.”

“Being a stroke survivor myself I can appreciate the great work BAS does to aid other stroke sufferers. As far as I can see everyone who works for the charity does it for the right reasons - creating a culture of friendly professionalism that makes volunteering a positive thing to do.”
