Bristol After Stroke is blessed to have almost 70 volunteers who, between, them make our work possible. Many gathered recently for our annual Volunteers Day.
We can’t say this often enough: our small army of dedicated volunteers is what sets our charity apart, making our work possible through helping to run our groups and activities, but also informing our work through their lived experiences.
Our peer mentoring scheme, now in its third year, symbolises everything that is unique and special in that relationship… because volunteers who themselves have had strokes are helping to rebuild the confidence and the lives of other stroke-affected people.
That makes our annual Volunteers Day a very special occasion, as it is our chance to say thank you and celebrate their involvement.
But, as ever this year, it was a chance also to listen to volunteers’ ideas to see how we can improve their own experiences as volunteers… and those of the people they help support.
Several dozen made the journey to Longwell Green Community Centre in early June for a series of presentations and participation events that will inform our work going forward and help us do an even better job for local stroke-affected people.
Thank you all again – and here’s to next year’s event!
