Paul Tucker was a popular figure in our Portway Group… and now his daughter Danielle is raising funds for Bristol After Stroke at this year’s Charity Walk in his memory. This is her moving story.
After my dad Paul Tucker suffered two strokes in February 2022, he spent a total of 12 weeks recovering in hospital before he was well enough to come home… and then I took on the role as his carer.
Dad suffered with short term memory loss where he would forget simple things - such as turning the hob off or locking the front door.
But he was able to go to the groups organised by Bristol After Stroke, and they were amazing with him.
To start with, he struggled going to the group sessions. But once he’d settled in, Thursday became the highlight of his week.
Bristol After Stroke supported him not only physically but emotionally too… they really helped him in his recovery.
They also supported myself as a carer - and I can't thank them enough!
Dad passed away in December 2022 due to a different reason. And on Saturday 19 September, I will be fundraising in his memory… and to say “thankyou” to Bristol After Stroke… by doing the three-mile walk.
Bristol After Stroke is such an amazing charity. And such a special charity to me!
