Our volunteers, our ambassadors

Bristol After Stroke simply could not operate without the untiring commitment of our volunteers. They don't just help run our groups, café sessions and courses but they provide friendship and encouragement to our clients and assist the vital work of fundraising and publicity.

What they do directly affects the lives and recovery of the people who have suffered a stroke, as well as help their carers and families.

Why volunteer?

  • Some volunteers have had strokes themselves, adding experience and empathy to the role.
  • Many of our clients volunteer with us, giving back to a service that has helped them.
  • Volunteering can also present a good opportunity to gain valuable experience to help you in the job market or with a specific career goal
  • It can also prove to be a lot of fun – and a great way to make new friends!

Counselling – Opportunities for Trainees & Qualified Counsellors

If you are training to be a counsellor or psychotherapist and need practice hours in a placement, have a look at our service leaflet and role description below:

Counselling Service Leaflet Counsellor Role Description

We request a minimum 12 months’ commitment, and in exchange we offer: an induction, some stroke-specific training, and regular supervision.

Face-to-face counselling takes place in people’s homes which means there’s quite a lot or travel involved (across Bristol and South Glos) so counselling hours may accumulate slowly.

If you’re interested, email our Lead Counsellor [email protected] and she will let you know when we are accepting applications. Counsellor_Application_Form
We cover an ethnically diverse population and actively welcome applications from people of varied backgrounds.
